To be sanctified means to be set apart, to be made holy. Paul's words in his letter to the Thessalonians are directly to this point: "For this is the will of God, your sanctification..." (1 Thess. 4:3a). The concept of sanctification is found throughout the New Testament. Again, Paul writes, "Not that I have already obtained this, or am already made perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own" (Phil 3:12). While the redemption of believers in Jesus Christ has been secured by His death and applied by His Spirit, there remains a conflict, a struggle, a command to press forward.

Join us at PrCRT 2013 as we examine the relationship of our ongoing sanctification to four aspects of the Christian life: faith, prayer, the Word of God, and service in the Church. How do each of these individually and of them collectively factor into the New Testament doctrine of sanctification?

Speakers

Dennis JohnsonDennis Johnson is professor of practical theology at Westminster Seminary California and associate pastor of New Life Presbyterian Church in Escondido, CA. He is the author of Him We Proclaim: Preaching Christ from All the Scriptures and of books on Acts, Philippians, and Revelation.

Derek Thomas Originally from Wales, Derek Thomas is senior minister at the historic First Presbyterian Church (ARP) in Columbia, SC and a professor of Systematic and Practical Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary and teaches in both Atlanta, GA and Jackson, MS. After pastoring in Ireland for 17 years, Dr. Thomas also served on the staff of First Presbyterian Church, Jackson, MS for 15 years, and is the editor of reformation21.
