The Hole In Their Bible

I am truly not shocked by the recent announcement by Rich Stearns that World Vision will now employ homosexuals so long as they are "married." Anyone paying attention to World Vision in recent years has noticed a gradual movement away from certain distinctives that once made evangelicalism evangelical.

Franklin Graham on World Vision

Franklin Graham released the following statement on World Vision's decision to endorse homosexual relationships:

I was shocked today to hear of World Vision's decision to hire employees in same-sex marriages. The Bible is clear that marriage is between a man and a woman.

My dear friend, Bob Pierce, the founder of World Vision and Samaritan's Purse, would be heartbroken. He was an evangelist who believed in the inspired Word of God.

Demons and Deal

Christ asked men questions about Himself. Of unbelievers He asked, "What think ye of Christ; whose Son is he?" Of His own He asked, "Whom say men that I, the Son of man, am?" and again, "Whom say ye that I am?" Yet it was not from men that the true answer first came, though the Pharisees answered well that Messiah was David's Son. When Peter came out with his great confession, Christ declared it to be a supernatural revelation and not the result of man's mental processes.

Living Sacrifice: Its Nature -- Part Three

Living Sacrifice: Its Nature
Romans 12:1-2
Theme: Holiness.
This week’s lessons teach us the extent to which we must offer ourselves to God.

Lesson

Another thing we need to see about the nature of the sacrifice God requires is that it involves the giving to God of our bodies. Some of the older commentators stress that offering our bodies really means offering ourselves, all we are. Calvin wrote, "By bodies he means not only our skin and bones, but the totality of which we are composed."1 But although it is true that we are to offer God all we are, most commentators today rightly refuse to pass over the word "bodies" quite this easily. It is because they recognize how much the Bible stresses the importance of our bodies.

A New Office of Ministry: A Proposal

If you are a well known pastor and have been involved in a public scandal that has harmed the reputation of Christ's church (bullying elders, plagiarism, building a 16,000 ft mansion, etc) then you may want to employ the services of a public relations firm. True, there are a few pesky Reformed folks out there who believe that the biblical qualifications for pastors are normative. But they are relatively few in number.

Discipleship

The worst that can be known about eternity and about the Christian life is to be found in the Word of God. When one has seen all that is forbidding in the Scriptures, there is nothing left hidden that can come forth as a surprise. Every new thing which we shall ever learn in this life or the next to come will be a delight. The worst has been told us.

Was Jesus Still God in the Tomb?

Was Jesus God in the womb? Was Jesus God in the tomb? You probably answered yes to the first question, but hesitated to do so over the second, didn't you? Although it’s brain-bursting to think of God as an embryo, it’s brain-numbing to think of God as a corpse. Reason looks at the almost invisible fetus, that Jesus became in the womb of the virgin, and says, “God cannot become a microscopic collection of cells.” Then faith says, “I believe, help my unbelief,” and worships. But when our eye looks at that lifeless body in a cold garden tomb, now dead for over 48 hours, and we’re asked to bow in worship, we exclaim, “I don’t believe, help my unbelief,” and refuse to worship.

Lesson

What exactly is meant by "sacrifice"? How are we to do it? The first point is the obvious one. The sacrifice is to be a living sacrifice rather than a dead one. This was quite a novel idea in Paul’s day, of course, though we have lost this by becoming overly familiar with it.
